Epic And Apple Feud Escalates As Apple Threatens To Terminate Dev Accounts And Tools
Things continue to heat up between Epic Games and Apple, as the latter threatens to terminate Epic Games’ developer accounts and deny them access to iOS and Mac developer tools. This is after Apple and Google blocked Epic from the App Store and Play Store for implementing a direct payment method to circumvent Apple’s 30% cut on all mobile app transactions which then allowed Epic to file a lawsuit against Apple for monopolizing mobile payments.
Apparently, the move will also extend to other games and mobile apps that make use of Epic’s Unreal Engine, forcing the studio to seek an injunction seeking to both re-instate Fortnite on the mobile app stores and stop Apple from retaliating against third-party developers.
Other companies aren’t taking sides just yet but it probably won’t be long until they do, especially since the Unreal Engine is the engine-of-choice for most developers.
