Final Fantasy XIV Sets New Player Concurrency Record On Steam

Final Fantasy XIV set a new player concurrency record on Steam yesterday with over 48,000 players logged in at the same time. The previous record was a little over 41,000 players, which was set in June 2019.

Since Final Fantasy XIV is also available outside of Steam, these numbers don’t necessarily paint an accurate picture of actual player numbers, although it’s evidence enough that the game is doing quite well over a decade after its initial release.

Why the sudden spike in players? Well, Asmongold’s first foray into the fantasy MMORPG might have had something to do with that. The popular World of Warcraft streamer tried the game out for the first time earlier this week, earning him over $30,000 from the 10-hour stream.

The stream also made waves when hordes of FFXIV players tried to snipe his stream and ruin the whole experience the moment his character stepped foot in the first public area. His second FFXIV stream wasn’t any better as a player on a massive whale mount kept following him around, much to his irritation
