Fractured, A New SpatialOS Powered Sandbox MMORPG Announced

A new Italian start-up called Dynamight Studios announced Fractured this week, a new sandbox MMORPG built on Unity and SpatialOS. Development for the game began in January 2017 with the goal of combining action RPGs and sandbox MMOs. Fractured isn't expected to be a traditional MMORPG though as the game won't have any "grinding" mechanics.

“The core of progression in Fractured is that the strengths and weaknesses of a character should be determined during its creation.” said Jacopo Gallelli, Dynamight’s CEO, “After that point, the player will be on a journey to improve the knowledge and reputation of his/her character, mainly through exploration and social interactions.”

Not too much is known about Fractured just yet, but it will have 3 races: Humans, Beastmen, and demons. The game will also be buy to play and aim for multi-platform release (PC and Mobile). The core selling point though seems to be the sandbox elements. Players will be able to mine resources and build towns and rule over them as governors. Player interaction and resource gathering seem to be the primary forms of progression.

SpatialOS seems to be all the rage these days. The company raised $500M last month and inked a deal with Jagex for them to use their technology in a future project. Other SpatialOS powered games include Metaworld, Worlds Adrift, Chronicles of Elyria, and Seed.
