Free to Play FPS Wrapped in Game Show Format 'The Finals' Alpha Test Begins Sept 29

The free to play team based FPS game 'The Finals' is starting its alpha playtest on September 29, 2022 and will run until October 3. Players can register to play during the alpha test on Steam. Not everyone who applies will gain access, but additional playtests are planned . Given that The Finals will be playable soon, the full launch, or at least open beta, shouldn't be too far away.

Nexon's Embark Studios, the company developing The Finals, bills the game as a 'fresh take on the FPS genre'. The game is presented in a gameshow format (thus the name: The Finals). Given its gameshow backdrop, The Finals will feature some unique, perhaps interactive, spectating mechanics. No word on what those mechanics are just yet though.

The game mode being tested in this round of alpha testing will be 'extraction' mode which features 12 players (4 teams) per round. It won't be the only game mode at full launch, but will be the one mode available on September 29.

The Finals calls itself a 'hero builder' and will feature many customization options where players can tailor their builds to fit their playstyle. The Alpha test will feature 42 different weapons, gadgets, and abilities.
