Funcom Region-Locks Official Conan Exiles Servers, BattlEye Returning Soon

There are any number of reasons that one might decide that region-locking servers is a good idea; language barriers, time zone differences, and lag reduction are just a few of them. Funcom recently decided that it would be "East/West region [locking]" the official Conan Exiles servers and its reasons for doing so seem to be all of the above.

Here is the official statement on the matter from Funcom Community Manager Jens Erik.

We have decided to East/West region lock the official servers for three reasons. The language barrier and the different playstyles is proving jarring for a lot of players. Also, the vastly different time zones between regions made offline raiding an unavoidable issue for a lot of players who would wake up to all their stuff being completely ruined.

Players outside of North America and Europe were inevitably mad about the decision, many wondering where they were supposed to play the game now. According to Erik, they will be able to play on new official servers that are expected to go live in Asia, Russia, and South America sometime this week.

Additionally, Funcom is currently in the process of "re-enabling BattlEye on official servers." Despite prior concerns, the company stated that it has "found no correlation between server performance and BattlEye."
