Reto-Moto announced today that the latest Heroes and Generals update, "Hallowes - XP for Friends," is now live and it brings with it some major news: the game's browser client has been ditched. In its place will be a standalone client that can be downloaded from the official website.

According to Reto-Moto, there are three core reasons that the browser client is no more: Chrome and Firefox are phasing out plugins that the browser client needs to work properly, making it so that only a client version of the game is available "simplifies [...] development," and features that they would like to add in the future are made more feasible by becoming an exclusively client-based game.

In terms of the update itself, the following changes have been made in regards to XP gained for team play:

  • XP bonus when assisting in a kill
  • XP bonus when protecting the team’s tank
  • XP bonus when teammates use their vehicle’s weapons

Reto-Moto Game Director Jacob Andersen had the following to say about the announcement.

We are aiming to make it both more fun and rewarding for soldiers to fight with their friends on the frontline. As part of the update all maps have been improved to ensure a better gameflow and allow for more intense battles. Tweaks have been made to the animation system resulting in a smoother visual experience. And we have added more bicycles to the game.
