Microsoft Confirms Work On ‘Keystone’ Xbox Game Streaming Device

A few weeks ago, Microsoft insider’s revealed the tech company’s plans to launch a standalone device that will allow users to stream Xbox games directly to their TVs. The device will reportedly function much like Amazon’s Fire Stick or Roku streaming devices and will come with an extensive library of Xbox Game Pass titles.

Windows Central has now confirmed that Microsoft is indeed working on such a device and it’s called Keystone. The product was initially rumored to be launching in 12 months but it could take longer as Microsoft is apparently looking into other versions of the device and other game streaming options before they put it out on the market.

“Our vision for Xbox Cloud Gaming is unwavering, our goal is to enable people to play the games they want, on the devices they want, anywhere they want. As announced last year, we’ve been working on a game-streaming device, codename Keystone, that could be connected to any TV or monitor without the need for a console,” said a spokesperson for Microsoft.

“As part of any technical journey, we are constantly evaluating our efforts, reviewing our learnings, and ensuring we are bringing value to our customers. We have made the decision to pivot away from the current iteration of the Keystone device. We will take our learnings and refocus our efforts on a new approach that will allow us to deliver Xbox Cloud Gaming to more players around the world in the future,” the spokesperson revealed.

There’s currently no timeline on when Keystone will launch or whether it will launch at all. But, if Microsoft manages to make it happen, we’re looking at a low-cost device that could lower or potentially remove the barrier to playing Xbox games without owning a console.
