Overwatch 2 Announced at Blizzcon - Multiplayer Will be Compatible with Overwatch 1
Blizzard announced Overwatch 2 at Blizzcon this weekend and it's definitely a bit of an oddball as it sounds more like DLC than a full blown sequel, especially since the game will be backwards compatible with the original Overwatch. The primary selling point of the sequel seems to be improved visuals and a whole host of single player content, as all the multiplayer content will be available in the original Overwatch as well.

Overwatch 2 Features:
- New 4 player co-op story missions
- New talent system for the PvE missions
- Graphical improvements
- New PvP game mode 'Push' (will be available in original Overwatch too)
- New Heroes (Sojourn has already been announced. Will also be available in original Overwatch)
I suspect Blizzard is releasing Overwatch 2 simply because they made a vow to not sell individual characters and maps separately in Overwatch and wanted to further monetize the game. Player skins, items, and experience should all transfer over to Overwatch 2 seamlessly.
