Overwatch: GOTY Edition Released, Both Versions Discounted, Free Weekend This Weekend

Overwatch received quite a few Game of the Year awards last year, which can only mean one thing: Blizzard was bound to release a Game of the Year Edition. Said Game of the Year Edition was released yesterday, offering prospective players a chance to get 10 Loot Boxes, the Origins Skins, and several cosmetic items in other Blizzard games for $59.99, $20 more than the base game.

Fortunately, the release of the Game of the Year Edition was coupled with a sale is running until June 5th at 11:59 PM PDT / June 6th at 2:59 AM EDT. The base game is currently 25% off or $29.99, whereas the Game of the Year Edition is 33% off or $39.99. The upgrade to the Game of the Year Edition, which is normally $19.99 is currently $9.99.

Those that are unsure whether they want to purchase the game during the sale period are in luck, as a free weekend is being held this weekend. The free weekend will run from May 26th to May 29th and, unlike certain other free weekends, will allow PC users to take part.

Overwatch's One-Year Anniversary celebrations also began yesterday with the launch of three new Arena maps in the Arcade, as well as over 100 Anniversary-themed Loot Box rewards, "including [the] largest-ever release of new Legendary skins." From now until June 12th, players will earn a free Anniversary Loot Box every day upon login. Additional Anniversary Loot Boxes can be earned during normal play, in addition to being purchased directly.
