Path Of Exile Announces Next Expansion - War For The Atlas

Grinding Gear Games is on a tear this year. The New Zealand based studio behind the action RPG Path of Exile has just announced their next expansion -- War for the Atlas -- and its slated to release on December 8 2017.

Fall of Oriath, the previous expansion launched just 3 months ago and added a whopping 6 new Acts to the game. Path of Exile now has a seamless 10 Act campaign, replacing the tedious Easy/Medium/Hard mechanic where players had to run through the campaign 3 times.

War for the Atlas moves the focus to the end game. As a sequel to 2016's Atlas of the Worlds expansion, players will see some dramatic changes to Path of Exile's end-game mapping system this December.

Grinding Gears has put together a great landing page for War for the Atlas and a nice inforgraphic which we've posted below. We'll let the trailer, official website, and infographic do most of the talking, but here are a few of the key features:

  • The Elder - A mysterious new entity known as The Elder is challenging The Shaper for control over the Atlas. The Elder is a new end game boss.
  • New Maps - 32 new maps will be added to the Atlas.
  • New Item Types - Two new item types, Shaped Items and Elder Items are being added.
  • New Gems & Uniques - 10 new skill gems and 50 new Unique items are being added.
  • Official European Launch - German, French, and Spanish language support added. This expansion marks Path of Exile's official European launch!

2017 has been a big year for Path of Exile. Besides the aforementioned Fall of Orianth overhaul, we've seen the game launch on Xbox One and grow its audience significantly. Grind Gears claims a 58% increase in hours played so far in 2017 vs 2016. Impressive!
