Grinding Gear Games is back as scheduled to officially unveil the next Path of Exile expansion ahead of its launch next week. The next expansion, called Lake of Kalandra, will revolve around the Mirror of Kalandra, one of the rarest and the most valuable items in the game and the character that it’s named after.

“You may recognise Kalandra from the infamous Mirror of Kalandra, Path of Exile's most valuable item,” said Grinding Gear. “The Lake of Kalandra expansion explores the identity of this iconic character and allows you a taste of her power.”

The new Kalandra Challenge League will send you to explore the Lake of Kalandra, a mirrored lake that granted the winged being her powers of reflection. As you travel through Wraeclast, you’ll find protruding columns with mirrored tablets on top. These tablets will allow you to move and swap encounter tiles, which are reflections of encounters found in other parts of the game world, to customize the mobs and challenges you’ll face as you make your way through different sections of the lake.

“In the Kalandra Challenge League, you'll travel to the mirrored lake that granted Kalandra her powers of duplication. The lake manifests reflections of Wraeclast itself, which emerge from its misty surface as you approach. Fight through these dangerous encounters to uncover Kalandra's mysteries and earn true power.”

The farther you go out on the lake, the more difficult the encounters will be. But as you probably know by now, harder challenges means better rewards. As you progress through the league, you’ll also unlock special abilities that will allow you to modify the encounters available in each mirrored tablet, including the ability to skip encounters, re-roll available encounter tiles, and even “Exile” a specific tile from a tablet. Mirrored tablets can be itemized so that they can be played later or traded to another player. Defeating the set encounters will grant you various rewards and a new way to acquire and upgrade rare jewelry.

Players will also get access to new endgame and lore content in the form of Atlas Memories which will send you back to the past as Alva, Einhar, Kirac, and Einhar as you explore each NPC’s memories. These memories can also be traded with other players.

Lake of Kalandra is scheduled to launch on PC on August 19th and on August 24th on consoles. The full update notes can be found on the Path of Exile official site.
