Last week’s COVID-19 outbreak at PAX East 2022 has unfortunately already claimed one victim. Dawn “Deestar” Wood, a PAX Enforcer, reportedly returned home sick after the convention and died a few days after on April 30th. Wood’s sister has setup a Gofundme campaign for the bereaved family.

“We know that many others had also come home sick (myself included) and hope that all are healing well,” said Wood’s sister. “Please don’t be afraid to seek help especially if you have other health issues that could make this illness so much worse. Dawn had so much fun this year and wasn’t even upset that she came home sick.”

PAX East 2022 was held at the Boston Convention Center and Exhibition Center from April 21st to April 24th. Several employees who were manning the Pandemonium Books & Games booth tested positive for COVID-19 who in turn unknowingly exposed others to the virus. This in spite of the added safety measures that the organizers implemented during the event which included the wearing of masks and proof of vaccination.

Meanwhile, EVE Fanfest 2022 is moving forward as scheduled this weekend with the very bare minimum in health and safety precautions. Attendees will not be required to wear masks and provide proof of vaccination although hand sanitizers will be available during the event along with a gentle reminder to “be mindful of other people’s personal space.”
