PlayStation Network Hits 70 Million Monthly Active Users

In a recent Corporate Strategy Presentation[PDF] Sony revealed that the Playstation Network has reached 70 million Monthly Active Users (MAU). More importantly, 26.4 million of those are paying members. With an annual subscription price of $60, that's a nice chunk of change for Sony.

The PlayStation 4 has been highly successful for Sony thus far with total shipments by the end of 2017 expected to hit 78 million. PlayStation Network users include those connecting via older PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita consoles.

Microsoft's Xbox One hasn't performed quite as well. Total shipments stand at 26 million with Xbox Live monthly active users at 52 million across Xbox, PC, and mobile devices.

The PlayStation Network and Xbox Live platforms are becoming increasing important as the share of digital sales increase and more MMOs & MMORPGs are released on consoles. The PlayStation Network today offers console gamers an ever expanding list of free to play MMOs.
