Cute and cuddly Pokemon will be invading the MOBA scene this summer with the launch of Tencent and The Pokemon Company’s Pokemon Unite. The game will feature strategic 5vs5 battles similar to Dota 2 and League of Legends where players take control of their favorite pocket monsters as they fight for dominance against the opposing team.

Players will gain energy by defeating both their opponents and capturing wild Pokemon that spawn in the map. They must then drop that energy into the enemy goal zone to score points. The team with the highest score at the end of the match wins. Different maps will feature different Legendary Pokemon and different rules, including varying player numbers and match lengths.

Players will also be able to evolve their chosen Pokemon over the course of the match and eventually learn a “Unite Move” that can give them an edge during the match.

The game will be free-to-play with microtransactions to unlock more Pokemon and purchase a variety of in-game items and perks using either Aeos Coins and Tickets that can be earned in the game or Aeon Gems that can be purchased using real-world money.

Pokemon Unite launches on Nintendo Switch in July and on Android and iOS devices in September with full cross-platform support. More information can be found on the official site. Don’t forget to check out the brand new trailer waiting for you right after the jump.
