With E3 2021 fast approaching, rumors have been springing up over the weekend about possible announcements and reveals that will be happening during and in the days leading up to digital convention. One particular rumor circulating on Reddit and Resetera claims that Square Enix will be announcing a new Final Fantasy spinoff during the tradeshow.

According to the rumor, Square Enix is reportedly working with Team Ninja, the studio behind Ninja Gaiden, Nioh, and Final Fantasy Dissidia NT, on the new game which will feature gameplay similar to Nioh or Bandai Namco’s Souls series. The rumored game is also supposedly inspired by Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and will take place in or adjacent to the world of the first Final Fantasy game.

Fanbyte’s sources have confirmed the rumor as well as the game’s title, Final Fantasy Origin. The game will also reportedly be released exclusively on the PlayStation 5 with a PC release planned for later. There’s also been talk of a possible demo coming out this summer.

Of course, these are just rumors and shouldn’t be taken as verified fact. We'll let you know as soon as more information comes up but we'll probably find out together when E3 2021 kicks off in June.
