Sea Of Thieves Celebrates 3rd Birthday And 20 Million Players

sea of thieves pirate cheers bannerIt’s been three years since Sea of Thieves launched on PC and the Xbox One. While the journey wasn’t as smooth as developer Rare would have hoped, the studio is now proud to announce that over 20 million players have set sail in the pirate-themed ship faring MMO.

“Three years of adventure. 20 million players. So much grog. Thank you, pirates, here’s to you,” tweeted the devs.

Players weren’t too happy with the game when it first launched back in March 2018 due to an overall lack of content and problems with griefing, which is probably expected in a pirate-themed game. Three years and numerous updates later and Sea of Thieves is back on the map and celebrating not only its anniversary but a very impressive milestone for any game.

To celebrate both occasions, Rare has released a new trailer and will be giving out free commemorative cosmetics to players who login to the game from now until March 25 at 3am PST. Players will also get the chance to earn double gold, Trading Company reputation, and additional Seasonal Renown during the special Gold and Glory weekend event happening from March 19 to March 22. The game is also on sale at 50% off in the Microsoft Store until March 21.
