Last week, Ubisoft gave the Skull and Bones community a glimpse of what’s coming in the multiplayer pirate game’s second season, dubbed Chorus of Havoc. Now, it’s diving a little deeper into Season 2 with a particular focus on its endgame revamp which promises to give players more freedom to build and manage their budding pirate empires.

Some of the noteworthy changes include adjustments to the costs of running Manufactories, the ability to fast travel when carrying Pieces of Eight, and the studio’s first pass at automating some of the more tedious repeatable endgame activities so that players can spend more time building up their fleets and enjoying seasonal content.

“Building on the system already in place, we aim to make the ships you’ve built as you progress more relevant and diversify your possibilities when putting together a loadout,” says Ubisoft. “We intend to make playstyles more relevant, increasing your ship level while taking full advantage of unique aspects of smaller ships you already own – allowing you to tackle tougher content with them.”

Season 2 will also introduce the first iteration of a fleet management system which will be expanded in future updates, as well as Helm Leases and new mechanics that will allow players who’ve attained the rank of Kingpin to further upgrade their ships. Solo players can also look forward to two new solo PvE modes: Buyout and Manufactory Defense.

Buyout Mode will task you with locating corrupt officials across the game world and bribing them to gain control of a Manufactory, while Manufactory Defense, as the name suggests, will require you to defend a Manufactory they control against attacks by waves of NPC ships every few hours.

“[…] If you fail to defend your Manufactory or do not come to its defense, it will suffer significant damage and will need time to repair itself,” the team explains. “A damaged Manufactory will not be able to generate Pieces of Eight while it is under repair. It'll also remain "in repairs" for an increased amount of time as your Manufactory level increases.”

Ubisoft has yet to lock in a start date for Season 2, but it’s expected to begin sometime next month.
