Skyforge's Biggest Expansion Adds New Campaign, Mechanics, Class, And More

Skyforge's upcoming Ascension expansion extends the game's campaign, adds a new class (the Outlaw), improves combat, and adds a new political system. It's touted as the largest expansion yet, and releases sometime this Fall.

The new Outlaw class is pretty self-evident: a gun-touting Westerner who shoots first and asks questions later. Players with prestige beyond one million can become a gunslinger, wielding two pistols and dynamite to bring Manifest Destiny to the world of Aelion with as much force as necessary.

While a new class is always fun in any game, the largest addition will be the Regions map: an extension of the game's progression campaign:

All the familiar interface screens, such as Equipment, Symbols, and Orders will also be located here. The amount of resources required for development will also be significantly reduced and now your actions are the main currency! Do you want to obtain a new symbol? Select the relevant mission on the Regions Map. Do you thirst for a new class? There will be a mission just for you!

Alien invasions on Aelion are also receiving an overhaul, an extension rather. Invasions will last eight weeks instead of two, and they will be isolated (invasions won't overlap one another). They're planned to become a massive aspect of the game. What exactly that means, we'll have to wait to find out.

My favorite addition, and something in every game, is changes to combat that will make nearly every enemy ability dodgeable. So if you;re HP slides down you know it's your fault. Also, players will now be able to chop off dead monster's bits and use them as weapons: "Swing the axe of a huge Vird to chop up his own kind; arm yourself with the tentacle of a defeated Kraken; slice off a Hydra head and terrify your enemies with it — any of these actions will bestow your character with new abilities for a time." Pretty neat.

There always more details to cover, and if you're interested check them  out by reading the official post on the Skyforge website.

Sean's Take: It's been a while since I've played Skyforge, but I'm happy to see updates are still being pushed out. I think it's about time to revisit once I get through Legion's content. Have you been playing Skyforge? I'm curious to hear active player's thoughts about Ascension.
