Shortly after watching Mark Hamill awkwardly ask Chris Roberts if he was going to be on the Squadron 42 poster at The Game Awards last night, the awards show got to be the first place that gamers could see the new Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 trailer. The new trailer shows off the FPS module, multiple players, seamlessly jumping into ships, dropping out of hyperspace, and more. It all looks rather impressive. From the trailer, it's a bit hard to tell exactly how much is in-game currently, but, if nothing else, the trailer certainly shows that Star Citizen has potential once again.

Fortunately, if you want to see how Star Citizen is doing these days—or want to know if something like this might require you to upgrade your computer—a tiny banner at the top of the official website says you can play for free from now until December 14th. The download is a staggering 35 GB that you can only play for 10 days without paying, but the option is there, should you want to take them up on the offer. Unfortunately, the 2.0 update—the current "big seller"—will not be available to you if you play for free. The trial offers only the Arena Commander module. The ships available for the duration of this event are the Aurora MR, Mustang Alpha, and Gladius.
