Star Citizen: Calling All Devs - Core Gameplay Update
All Devs video update, Star Citizen Core Gameplay Director Richard Tyrer talks up new gameplay features and mechanics that will be coming to the still-in-development space simulation MMO. These features include health, injury, and death mechanics and hacking.

In the current health system, players have both an overall health pool and a health pool for each limb. Taking damage to a particular limb deducts health points from both the limb and the overall pool. Death occurs when the overall health pool falls to zero but the limbs will still work fine even when their health pool is depleted.

With the upcoming injury system, sustaining damage to a limb will apply a status effect that will reduce the functionality of that limb. While medipens can be used to restore the limb’s health pool, the status effect will remain and will require specialized care from hospitals or players with the right equipment and ship. The system is meant to make players more mindful about the injuries they sustain, especially when they’re far from a landing zone where they risk dropping all their equipment when they die.

The team also plans to introduce handheld radar that will tie in to the recently-introduced radar system. A future update will also add a hacking system, which will allow players to use a hacking keycard to open locked doors, disable shields, and other hacking-related stuff. Players will also be able to repair computers and possibly counter hacking attempts.
