After months of hibernation, NCSoft’s Throne and Liberty is finally seeing some action with the announcement of the next South Korean beta test from May 24th to May 30th.

“We thought that the game needed to be seen in a new light, which is why we decided to do a beta test,” the studio announced. “The Beta Test in May will only be available to players residing in South Korea.”

Throne & Liberty has been in development for a decade, experiencing numerous false starts, do-overs, and renames along the way since its introduction to the world as Lineage Eternal. The February test phase was meant to be the final one, with investors being told that the game would launch in the west during the first half of 2023. But with no formal delay announcement, it's unclear whether that timeline is still valid.

There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical, as Amazon, the game’s western publisher, has remained tight-lipped and no tests have run in the west yet. Moreover, a Korean media outlet recently reported a “fierce debate” within NCsoft over the launch, fueling speculation of a delay to October.

NCsoft promised to address the game's roadmap in its Q1 earnings call, scheduled for the second week of May, which falls during the application period but before the actual test. Meanwhile, fans are eagerly awaiting further news, hoping that the studio will deliver on its promise to finally bring Throne & Liberty to the masses.
