Prepare to venture into a goopy new world in V Rising as Stunlock Studios prepares to unleash the multiplayer vampire survival game’s Secrets of Gloomrot expansion. The free update lands later this month, featuring a new zone, a world revamp, weather hazards, trading hubs, and multi-level castle building.

The expansion will introduce the titular Gloomrot zone, a land soaked in toxic sludge, where science has gone mad. Players can expect to encounter failed experiments, strange contraptions, steampunk devices, mutants, and Frankenstein-esque creatures.

In a new dev diary, the team shared details about their inspiration for Gloomrot and the challenges they faced while creating the new zone.

“Gloomrot is a biome themed around science gone mad, the old and familiar ideas of unchecked ambition and arrogance in the face of the natural order. The group responsible for organizing these erudite efforts is called The Trancendum, a collection of psychopathically obsessive technologists on a mission to create the next stage of human evolution. This pathology dates back to the times of Dracula, when their still-living, seemingly ageless head-scientist Doctor Henry Blackbrew, originally founded this pursuit in an attempt to fight back against Dracula’s armies.”

The team at Stunlock Studios described Gloomrot North as a dark fairytale brought to life, with a blend of gothic architecture and pipes and technology seamlessly integrated to create a cohesive and immersive environment.

Fans of V Rising can look forward to getting their hands dirty in the twisted world of Gloomrot on May 17th. In the meantime, you can learn more about the studio’s inspiration for the new zone along with snippets of lore on the game's official website.
