Multiplayer survival game Valheim is still awaiting its second major update three years after its wildly successful early access launch. Developer Iron Gate Studio has been teasing the upcoming Ashlands update for almost a year now as development plods along on its new ashy, lava-filled biome.

Iron Gate, however, is determined to move at its own pace as it works on polishing the biome for its promised launch in the first half of this year. “It’s not called the Lavalands. It’s not called Volcano country,” said the team as it resurfaces with a new dev blog and video. “It could’ve been done like five iterations ago, but it’s so much better now than it was then.”

Both the blog and the video offer previews of the Ashland’s environment and the new creepy critters that will be inhabiting the smoky region. The team also talks up a new resource type and the addition of siege engines to the Viking-themed game.

Unfortunately, Iron Gate still hasn’t announced a concrete release date for Ashlands, let alone a narrower release window. For now, you can catch a glimpse of some of its contents in the new developer video below and the dev blog on the Valheim official site.
