Pearl Abyss has released a new DokeV developer commentary video as a follow up to the gameplay trailer that came out earlier this week. The video offers more insight into the game, which has officially been scaled down to a co-op action adventure game instead of an MMORPG.

From the gameplay trailer itself, we can probably see how the upcoming monster-taming game’s colorful and vibrant visuals will appeal to children and children-at-heart, a fact that Executive Producer Daeil Kim says was the team’s goal right from the start with a little Ghostbusters thrown in for good measure.

“We wanted to create a game the whole family can enjoy together,” shared Kim,” so we thought, ‘Let’s make a game where you go on adventures with Dokebi (creatures from Korean folklore).’”

Ghostbusters [also] left a huge impression on me when I was a kid,” he added. “If we can pay homage to the things that were really memorable to us when we were young and put all those things together into a well-harmonized open world action game, that’s a game we believe will be truly unique. And that was the idea that got DokeV started.”

The team also touched on the game’s storyline, adventuring with friends, the adorable Dokebi, and combat, which the developers say embodies the studio’s style of action combat while also making it more appealing to larger audiences.

Pearl Abyss has yet to announce an exact release date for DokeV, but they’ve confirmed that it will be sometime after 2022. In the meantime, you can check out the full dev commentary video just after the break.
