Enjoy The Burning Crusade Classic while you can because the server will soon be transitioning to the next expansion in the series – Wrath of the Lich King.

In an interview with Wowhead, Production Director Patrick Dawson and Technical Designer Tim Jones have confirmed that the World of Warcraft Classic server will automatically move on to Wrath of the Lich King with no character cloning services when the expansion comes out later this year. That doesn’t mean that there won’t be a Burning Crusade Season coming in the future, just that it won’t be happening anytime soon.

As for the Classic era, Jones reveals that the Season of Mastery won’t be the last season and that they’re looking into other rulesets that they can implement in future seasons.

Dawson and Jones also touched on the content phases for Wrath of the Lich King as well as the changes being made to the expansion for its return to the Classic servers. These include replacing Arena Teams with the Individual Rating system, which Jones says is more player-friendly, and the controversial removal of the dungeon finder.

They explained that the decision to remove the dungeon finder was based on player feedback and that they’re currently looking for ways to update systems and tools to facilitate grouping without removing the need for social interaction amongst players. The pair also pointed out that automatically teleporting to a dungeon without knowing its actual location takes away a big part of the game.
