The Cleansing Overview

Humanity has been pushed to the brink of extinction in The Cleansing, a real-time strategy game set in a dark, post-apocalyptic feudal world. The populace has been divided into common people and nobility, serving Houses of power. Players begin under a House, and in each match strive to capture territories for economic resources and strategic positioning, building efficient nerve centers of operations to take over the enemy's base. Manage five units to fight and gain control of the map. Choose from over thirty different heroes, each belonging to either the Highborn, Recruit, Ranger, Brainer, or Nomad classes with unique skills, specialties, and job upgrades. Explore a 3D map and claim territories to procure resources, constructing buildings to increase cash flow and spawn lesser units (minions). Play in a single-player campaign or in competitive PvP matches of 3v3, 2v2, and 1v1.

I just watched the new trailer for The Cleansing, and I was checking out to be sure is not a Kickstarter project, it turns out it is on Steam Greenlight. This is bad, since most games there are not that great, but is okay.

I don't like how they advertise the game as a real time strategy when the game looks like a turn based strategy. It reminds me of the X-Com games or even Jagged Alliance 2. I got this feeling after seeing the way you chose 5 characters to be part of your team and how you can have multiple types of heroes, if you check the items on the bottom right, there is a shield, a sniper cross-hair, a poison bottle, a mask (stealth?), a flying boot (scouting unit?) and a triangle (possible technology unit?). They can have multiple items equipped, they have stats you can improve, they even have implants(?) or item upgrades. You can chose from 15 characters as it looks like.

Now it shows the gameplay. Looks like the characters move real time, one thing I must criticize, why are the graphics grimdark, it makes them look like an old game. I don't understand why companies think this is a great idea since the most popular games are cartoony and goofy made for a lot of audiences. I don't really like this post apocalyptic setting. Maybe is just me.

Then we find out there are game modes for 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3, so they are literally creating an esport game, a moba-like game where you explore and it looks like you have no minimap, or is not implemented yet, except there is a difference, everyone controls 5 characters at the same time. They look like they have no special abilities or anything like that, so is probably just a multi hero moba, something like the Lost Vikings in Heroes of the Storm.

There is also a thing about new esport games. They suck if they are not the first one to invent a genre. And most of them are designed to be fun to watch and not fun to play, I mean look at Starcraft. How many people have you seen having fun while playing and repeating the same openings over and over against different people.

I really think that is true, since I heard some pros how they don't recommend the game to new players and how the game in soloqueue (not LCS or whatever league there is for your game, that was a League of Legends example) if you get a bad team where everyone sucks, you will not have fun no matter what. The esport genre is the most enjoyable when you win. Not when you wait 60 hours in a lol game just to lose.
