Amazon Dives Deeper Into New World Territory Wars In New Dev Blog

new world fort fire bannerLast week, Amazon Game Studios released a video preview of what New World players can expect during Territory Wars. The studio follows up on the video and dives a little deeper into the PvP “pillar” of the upcoming game in a new dev blog.

“Aeternum is a place of struggle. Not only will you have to contend with the forces of Corruption, but you must also protect yourself from other players. Claiming a Territory is a good first step in establishing a foothold, providing security and resources for the days ahead, but it also puts you at greater risk when someone else wants what you have.”

Before a faction can declare war on another faction’s Territory, they must first weaken the Territory and bring it into a Conflict State by completing the required Faction Missions. Once that’s done, a lottery will then be used to determine which Company will be leading the war, otherwise known as The Vanguard. The chosen Company’s Governor will then get to handpick players that will be participating in the 50vs50 battle.

Companies that don’t have enough members will be able to enlist volunteers from other Companies, or even members of the faction that’s sitting out, to fill the ranks. All they have to do is sign up on the War Boards located in the Settlement or outside the Fort of the Territory that they’re going to war with. “For example, if a Company from the Syndicate has declared War on a Territory owned by the Marauders and they don’t have enough warriors to fill their ranks, they can enlist help from members of the Covenant.”

The battle itself will take place within windows of time set by the defenders. “Being able to set the time the War takes place helps for better coordination of the participants,” says Amazon. “This also removes the potential for offline raiding or Wars taking place during inconvenient hours for the majority of the members involved.”

During the battle, the attacking army must capture Rally Points in front of the Fort, breach the walls and gates, and capture the Claim at the heart of the Fort while the defenders try to stop them. Once the Fort falls, the attacking army gets control of the Territory for their faction.

The blog also talks about various siege weapons that can be employed by the attacking and defending army. These include cannons, fire launchers, and rapid fire turrets for the attackers, and ballistas, explosive cannons, fire droppers, rapid-fire turrets, and a horn that heals and gives a defensive buff to allies.
