ASTA Online To Be Shut Down On October 4th

WEBZEN announced today that ASTA Online will be shutting down on October 4th. The cash shop has already been closed in preparation for the inevitable shutdown. Drop rates, gold drop rates, and XP rates have been increased for the remainder of time that the game is online.

The reason for the shutdown is described as follows.

This last year has been a busy and eventful one for ASTA, for you as a community and for us as a team working on it. Over a year ago, we were excited to announce that we would be bringing ASTA: The War of Tears and Winds to Western audiences. The game had much potential in our eyes, and your reactions during the IBT served to boost those feelings.

Many of you followed us all the way from IBT, to OBT, to multiple expansions, and your support made us believe we could succeed. Sadly, we were wrong. The players we have are awesome, and any company would be happy to have such a dedicated community, but sadly the recent player numbers are not sufficient for us to be able to continue the service. So, after discussions with Polygon Games, we have agreed that the game servers will close on the 4th of October.

ASTA Online originally launched in South Korea in October of 2013, only for development to come to a sudden halt in December of 2013. The game was later closed last summer before it was announced that it would be released in the West. Beta testing began in November of last year, Open Beta began on March 2nd, and the game officially launched on May 24th. It received one expansion and an update to that expansion while it was online. It will have been online with no progress wipes for just over 7 months when it shuts down on October 4th.
