Asta Online Is Shutting Down, Again

On November 9, 2017 Move Games, the current publisher of Asta Online, put out an announcement titled Service Termination Notice. No new installations via Steam will be allowed starting today while the servers themselves are set to go offline in a month, on December 8, 2017.

This version of Asta Online launched in April 2017 and thus ranks as one of the briefest running official MMORPG servers. Perhaps that's unsurprising given the game's troubled history. Development on Asta Online started way back in 2010 and it was billed as the 'WoW of the East' during its lengthy development period. The game saw a Korean release in October 2013, but was shut down less than two years later. We saw a Western release in 2016, but that initial version also lasted less than a year before shuttering.

With the Steam version now shuttering, this may very well be the end of the road for Asta Online. We did a Grindfest Friday video for Asta back in May 2017 and the most striking feature for me was how closely the game aped World of Warcraft. The window to just copy & paste WoW ended sometime last decade.

Be sure to read the full notice for more details, including the posted refund policy.
