After being MIA for the entirety of 2021, Big Picture Games is back with a big announcement for PvP sandbox MMORPG Darkfall: Rise of Agon. The team had apparently been negotiating a partnership deal to launch the game in Asia which took up most of their time. Unfortunately, they were forced to shut down the Asian version just months after it launched in the region due to technical issues and ended up handing over that version to a different company altogether.

Now that that’s been settled, the studio is now focusing their efforts on the original western version of the game with plans for a full release on Steam by the end of 2022 or early 2023. Over the next few months, the team plans to port over some of the improvements they made in the Asian version to what will become the Legacy version of the game. The Steam version will be an entirely new version with all the improvements and new features available from day one.

“We want to make a big splash and really get the game polished out for new players and old players to come back to a fresh game,” said the team.

The price of premium subscriptions and premium game time, however, will be increased when the game launches on Steam to account for the additional cost of publishing the game on the platform. They’re also looking at releasing supporter packs and are looking for investors to help fund the game’s ongoing development.

“We really want to put some serious coin into a marketing campaign leading up to a launch on Steam. We want to break the servers and see overflowing players checking out the game, for that to happen we want to open up the project for investors to jump in to expand our reach with some real money for marketing,” they said.
