Elite Dangerous Horizon Expansion Merged Into Base Game, Player Successfully Circumnavigates Entire Galaxy

elite dangerous horizons engineers landingAs announced last month, Elite Dangerous developer, Frontier Developments, has merged the Horizons expansion with the base game. The expansion launched in December 2015 with a $29.99 price tag and, as of today, is now available for free to all owners of the base game on Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The expansion itself features the addition of planetary landings, surface recon vehicles, ship-launched fighters, weapon crafting, multi-crew coop, and more.

“If you already own the Elite Dangerous base game, or you purchased it from this date, you will now have access to all the features Horizons provides added to your game, for free. Meaning you will now be able to land on planets, explore their surfaces in your SCARAB SRV, craft rare and powerful weapons with the help of a wide variety of Engineers, expand your multiplayer experience with multicrew, plus much more!”

“The Milky Way is a big space and we are happy to bring you all a little closer together,” wrote Frontier on the official forums. Unsurprisingly, those who already purchased the expansion aren’t happy with the merge. But, they do get a free azura paint job as compensation.

In other Elite Dangerous news, a player named CMDR Thauma has successfully circumnavigated the entire galaxy. The journey from Colonia and back took 952 jumps and four months and two days to complete. “It was a huge mix of labor, dedication, energy and time, but it was fun to see that you actually progress on a path that only few dare to walk through,” said Thauma on Reddit.

“I kinda already miss it too. As for boasting – eh, I may be the first, but I am first in a specific niche – a circumnavigation with a carrier done by a lone CMDR. Few people already flew with normal ships, though, there is also the ambitious plan of another CMDR to visit every DSSA carrier and I bet other people will do a lap around the galaxy with their carriers even faster than me,” he said.
