Elite Dangerous: Horizons - The Commanders Lets Players Multicrew And Customize Their Avatars Today
At long last, Elite Dangerous: Horizons' long-awaited update, The Commanders, has arrived. Players can now jump into vessels with friends and take part in multicrew co-op. Each ship has three roles that players can fill: Fighter, Gunner, and Helm. The Fighter takes the fight to the opponent at hand with a "ship-launched fighter deployed from the mother ship's launch bay" while the Helmsman pilots the mother ship and the Gunner "handles secondary firing groups from a third-person tactical viewpoint.
The update also introduces the long-awaited Holo-Me Commander creator, which allows players to customize their in-game avatars. I've seen footage of Holo-Me in the past and it looks rather in-depth.
Complementing the launch of The Commanders is the "1.8 gameplay update," which introduces new "starports carved into asteroids," a new class of ship called "Mega Ships," and the ability to progress through new questlines by completing "chained missions." A third-person camera has been added to the game's Camera Suite, as well.
