Gamigo Announces Plans To Start Charging Fees For Major Updates For ArchAge Unchained

archeage unchained kneeling bannerGamigo has just announced their plans to make significant changes to the ArcheAge Unchained business model in a new post on the game's Discord channel. If you can remember, Gamigo launched the buy-to-play version of ArcheAge in October last year which gives players unlimited access to all of the game’s content for $25.99. Apparently, the publisher is having problems supporting the game and delivering new content and have decided to charge a small fee for major updates in the future, starting with the upcoming Garden of the Gods expansion.

“We understand the concerns being raised about the access price for the exciting upcoming ArcheAge: Garden of the Gods expansion. It has become increasingly challenging to continue delivering the Unchained version of the game and remain as true to our pillars of fair-to-play as possible.”

“We understand the concerns being raised about the access price for the exciting upcoming ArcheAge: Garden of the Gods expansion,” the studio adds. “It has become increasingly challenging to continue delivering the Unchained version of the game and remain as true to our pillars of fair-to-play as possible.”

Of course, the studio knows that the decision won’t go down well with Unchained players considering that they already paid to get “unlimited” access to the game and have anticipated their reaction. “We know there are mixed opinions about this, specifically related to our previous commitment around charging one price to access existing ArcheAge content when Unchained released last October 2019,” says Gamigo. “For the past 8 months this declaration has been fulfilled. Now we introduce new content in the form of a DLC expansion and we greatly appreciate everyone’s continued support. Without the dedication of our Unchained players, we would have never been able to make this version a reality.”

Well, they thought right because the official ArcheAge Unchained Discord is now on fire with negative reactions. “You can't just break promises and say ‘We’ll we kept them for 8 months so it's fine,’ that's not at all how consumer protection laws work,” wrote one user. “So what #news is saying is that ‘It was either we sell pay to win items on the store or we sell dlc updates to keep the servers going’ LMFAO,” wrote another.
