Here’s The Latest From The Epic Games And Google Lawsuit

epic google black bg bannerOver the past few months, we’ve been covering the ongoing legal feud between Epic Games and Apple. The one between Epic and Google, however, seems to have taken a back seat mostly because the two companies have yet to come to blows and because Epic and Apple have been hogging the spotlight with all the filings and posturing that have happened since the whole mess started.

Google and Apple were both slapped with a lawsuit in August when they booted Fortnite from their respective distribution platforms after Epic attempted to bypass both companies’ cut on in-app purchases by adding a direct payment button within the mobile game. Compared to Apple, Google has chosen to less aggressive in handling the matter and opted to leave third-party developers using the Unreal Engine out of the mess.

Like Apple, Google’s motion to dismiss was also denied by the judge handling their case, Judge James Donato, although they were able to get it tried separately from Apple’s. According to The eSports Observer, Google also filed a motion to delay the proceedings until October 2022 which Judge Donato also denied saying that a two-year delay in the case was “unacceptable.” The tech company then countered with an alternative date of February 2021. Instead, the judge told Google and Epic to pick a date that they can both agree on and advised them to “get moving.”
