Last Oasis developer Donkey Crew emerges from a deep slumber with a lengthy update on some of the new and exciting new things coming to the nomadic survival MMO. The game launched into Steam Early Access in March 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, it was poorly received by the community because of several major issues, including lack of content, lack of creature variety, and primitive AI system.

Donkey Crew has been working on those issues over the past few months and have cleaned up the game’s backend, reworked their AI, and deployed a new system that allows them to easily add new creatures or tweak existing ones. These creatures will now play a major part in the gameplay instead of just being moving resources to harvest.

“Hunting them, acquiring resources related to them, etc. is going to be a major part of next season’s gameplay,” said the devs. “Our intention is to have a progression that works in a way where you always have some bigger threats to tackle and defeat (or be defeated and find another way to acquire those resources, for example through trading).”

In addition to wild creatures that roam the game’s desert landscape, the team will also be adding more dangerous versions of them known internally as Battle Mobs. “These creature variations will come equipped with battle rigs, designed to put up a fight against players on their Walkers,” the devs explained. “They will be much tankier than their wild counterparts, have a variety of siege weapons available to use against you, and possess a different AI and aggro system that fits Walker combat much better than fighting versus players on foot.”

The team teased an open world raid boss called the Mountain Crawler, which the team fondly calls Gogo. Gogo has one of the highest armor in the game and will be the most challenging creature that players will face prior to going up against sandworms.

The new creatures and gameplay improvements will be making their way to the games in Season 5 which will soon be up for public testing. Donkey Crew also promised more content, more gameplay, more threats, and more rewards in future updates.
