Nightingale Drops A New Trailer And Explains How Inter-Realm Travel Will Work

Inflexion Games has dropped a new trailer for their multiverse-styled Victorian survival game Nightingale. The game was originally announced as an MMO at The Game Awards last December but has since been downgraded to a shared-world multiplayer game where players can explore and build in a variety of uniquely-themed realms.

To get to those realms, players (a.k.a. Realmwalkers) will make use of Realm Cards to access a network of gateways. According to the accompanying blog, the combination of realm cards used determines what type of world they’ll arrive in and the challenges they’ll face within it.

“Nightingale’s Realm Cards offer players an innovative path to influence their experience as they navigate the mystical portal network. By wielding the magick-infused Realm Cards wisely, intrepid Realmwalkers have the power to determine the specific attributes of each new Faewild world they conjure. Players are able to craft Realm Cards from resources gathered across the realms, imbuing them with unique attributes – including environment type, weather patterns, resources, challenges, and much more.”

Combined with the game’s procedural generation system, these cards will allow players to create an almost infinite variety of realms to explore and can be crafted using ingredients found all across the Realms.

“Nightingale offers a level of variability and exploration potential within the Faewild worlds beyond your usual survival crafting experiences,” said Senior System Designer Alexei Pepers. “The Realm Card system, paired with a sophisticated level design process that blends procedural generation with intentional design, offers you a way to not only discover everything the realms have to offer, but to have agency over how you experiment and explore.”

The team promises to reveal more information about Realm Cards and Nightingale’s other gameplay features in the future. For the time being, you can check out the new trailer below to learn more about how inter-realm travel will work in the upcoming game.
