Retro Style MMORPG by Jagex Founder Andrew Gower "Brighter Shores" Announced for PC & Mac

A big name in the MMORPG space, Andrew Gower the founder of Jagex and RuneScape designer, will be launching a new MMORPG later this year titled "Brighter Shores". The game will be free to play and will be on playable on PC and Mac through Steam later this year.

“Creating this game has been a real labour of love. At times it has felt like an insurmountably ambitious task, so it's amazing to finally see it coming together in the way I hoped. I can’t wait to see the world full of players enjoying what we have created.” -Andrew Gower

The game is developed and published by Gower's own indie studio Fen Research, which has been working on Brighter Shores for over a decade. The game uses its own proprietary Fenforge engine and promises a new take on the genre with less grind, but with a retro look and feel.

While little is known about the game, we do know that it'll have a fantasy setting and will have 3 playable classes (which will likely be customizeable): Cryoknight, Hammermage or Guardian.

While few new game studios have found success in the MMORPG genre, I'm excited to give Brighter Shores a shot as it's made by one of the all time greats in the industry, the man behind RuneScape, which to this day remains one of the most popular MMOs. I'm also a fan of the retro style, which is very reminscent of RuneScape, but more modern.
