Riders Of Icarus Switches To Nexon Cards Payment Method After Its Crypto Token Value Crashes

When Valofe introduced play-to-earn mechanics in Riders of Icarus a few months ago, the studio also changed the way that players were able to purchase premium currency called GCoin. Instead of using real-world money, players needed to use cryptocurrency tokens called Karma Koin to buy GCoins that they can then use for in-game microtransactions.

That’s now changed as the studio switches over to the Nexon Game Card as its preferred payment method. Nexon’s publishing rights for the game, however, lapsed way back in 2019, which could mean that Valofe has struck a new publishing deal with the South Korean publisher. Or, Valofe could have just piggy-backed on Nexon’s platform in exchange for a small cut.

As for the reason behind the switch, it’s more than likely due to the recent fall in cryptocurrency prices which saw the value of Riders of Icarus’ Rania Token (RIA) plummet by as much as 97% by the end of July, just a month after the MMORPG went play-to-earn.
