The Game Awards, arguably one of the biggest video game award shows of this generation, took place earlier tonight with various developers and publishers in attendance. The Oscars-like awards show kicked off with major announcements and reveals before handing out trophies to the best games in the industry.

Some of the key reveals during the show included the world premiere trailer for Diablo 4, the pre-alpha teaser trailer for Funcom’s Dune Awakening survival MMO, Digital Extremes’ official reveal trailer for its new online action RPG Wayfinder, and confirmation of Amazon’s plans to bring Blue Protocol to the west in the second half of 2023.

As for the winners of this year’s The Game Awards, Elden Ring bagged the highly-coveted Game of the Year award, beating out God of War Ragnarok, A Plague Tale: Requiem, Horizon Forbidden West, Stray, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

Game Director Hidetaka Miyazaki personally accepted the award and thanked the team at FromSoftware, as well as Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) author George R.R. Martin who wrote the backstory and lore for the game. Elden Ring also won the awards for Best RPG, Best Game Direction, and Best Art Direction.
