Valorant’s Anti-Toxicity Voice Recording Feature Rolls Out Later This Month

Last month, Riot Games revealed its plans to record in-game voice communications in Valorant as part of their efforts to combat toxic behavior. As expected, this raised a whole host of concerns within the community about data and personal privacy. The studio was quick to promise that they would keep only the absolute bare amount of data needed to make the system work.

Riot also announced that they will be implementing the new anti-toxicity measure in North America first. That’s happening on July 13th according to the studio’s latest update. The initial launch will be focused on testing the voice-recording functionality and will not be used as evidence for disruptive behavior… yet. The studio will start to use the new system as intended when beta testing starts later this year.

“Before we can even think of expanding this tool, we’ll have to be confident it’s effective, and if mistakes happen, we have systems in place to make sure we can correct any false positives,” said Riot. This is brand new tech and there will for sure be growing pains. But the promise of a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone who chooses to play is worth it.”

Whether players will be allowed to use alternative forms of voice communication and third-party software like TeamSpeak or Discord is still unclear. We’ll let you know as soon as Riot addresses the issue. In the meantime, you can learn more about the new voice evaluation system on the Valorant official site.
