Ubisoft is on track to release another multiplayer title next month as it confirms a launch date for XDefiant. The free-to-play arena shooter will be launching on May 21 with guns blazing as it plans to kick off a six-week pre-season to get players into the groove before the full seasons begin.

XDefiant promises the classic Call of Duty multiplayer experience that shooter fans have been missing over the last few CoD releases. Casual games won’t be limited by a matchmaking system, allowing players to put their skills to the ultimate test against each other regardless of their MMRs, kill/death ratios, and whatnot.

The game will feature characters from various Ubisoft franchises who’ll be sorted into five playable factions. The Division characters will be lumped together as the Cleaners, Splinter Cell characters as the Echelon, Ghost Recon Phantoms as the Phantoms, and Watch Dogs 2 characters as the Dedsec. Players will have access to the first four factions on launch but will have to unlock the Dedec faction by playing the game or purchasing it from the cash shop.

The pre-season will include 14 maps to play on, five game modes, and 24 weapons to arm your chosen characters with. Game modes will initially only be available in 6v6 format, with a 4v4 ranked practice option to be added in Season 1 or sometime after it begins.

XDefiant will be available on PC via Ubisoft Connect, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
