Evercore Heroes Is Going Into Maintenance Mode For Polishing And Redesign

Evercore Heroes is a new competitive PvE MOBA and MMO hybrid that kicked off its paid closed beta test back in June. Unfortunately, the paywall only served to deter would-be testers from trying out the game resulting in an extremely disappointing turnout.

Player numbers, however, were significantly lower than developer Vela Games had expected, forcing them to take drastic measures to keep the lights on in the Dublin-based studio. The studio will stop updating the game starting on August 24th. They’ll also be slashing 50% off of cash shop prices, pulling founder’s packs from the shelves, and making the battle pass free for everyone who already owns the game.

Additionally, the studio says that they’ll also be downsizing across all departments over the next few months. While the studio claims that most of those who bought into the beta test liked the game’s competitive PvE mechanics, it unfortunately didn’t meet their financial expectations.

Vela Games also acknowledged the challenges of launching a brand new IP with new game mechanics as a fledgling studio. “[…] It’s brutal out there as many studios are harshly realising, and we didn’t do a good enough job telling our story to a wider audience,” they said.

Evercore Heroes’ journey isn’t over yet though as Vela Games promises to shift its attention to the game’s competitive PvE mechanics and rebrands it as Project R. The studio promises a more challenging PvE experience, more roster-based co-op play, more impactful rewards, and a revised format that will allow for clearer and more strategic decisions. The game will presumably come out of maintenance mode once the new version has been deployed.

“This has been the hardest period of Vela’s history so far, and ultimately I know it’s even harder for the people on our team impacted by these changes,” the studio said. “None of us wanted to be in this position, but the best of this team’s incredible work will live on as Evercore Heroes evolves into its new form.”
