New World players are finally getting access to one of the most-requested features since the open-world MMORPG launched two years ago – mounts. Horses, lions, and dire wolves will be making their way to Aeternum as ridable companions when the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion comes out on October 3rd.

The lead developer for mounts, Andrew Menches, explains how the mount system will work in the latest Forged in Aeternum video. As we previously noted, the mount system ties in with the expansion’s lore and will allow players to travel faster through roads and sprint for a limited amount of time depending on their mount’s stamina. Stamina and other mount-related stats and capabilities can be improved by completing mount quests to earn mount XP.

“Traverse Aeternum faster, express yourself, and complete time trials with customizable mounts. There’s also a new Riding Trade Skill to master.” Amazon announced. “Whether you prefer to ride a Horse, Dire Wolf or Lion all three types of mounts will double your standard sprinting speed. Summon your favorite from almost any location outside of combat. As you progress, you’ll earn mount buffs and attachments to further personalize your new best friend.”

It's basically a slightly more complex and sandbox-like version of the traditional mount system found in other MMORPG’s. Menches and Lead UX Designer Daniel Henube offers more information in the new developer video below.
