I'm sure that crowdfunded games have drawn ire from all of us at some point. "When are they going to be released?" we've asked. "How do we know this one will actually be finished?" I've heard a number of users say. "I'm holding onto my money until they actually have something playable," others say, perhaps wisely. Despite that, 2016 was a rather big year for crowdfunding and the company behind the crowdfunding platform Fig has collected some of the details and put them into an infographic that you can find embedded below.

As you can see, three MMOs have made it onto the list: Chronicles of Elyria at #3 with $1,361,435 earned, Dual Universe at #5 with approximately $597,649.75 earned, and AdventureQuest 3D at #9 with $368,503 earned. The upcoming World War II first-person shooter Battalion 1944 also made the list at #7 with approximately $385,845 earned.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, there is quite a harsh drop-off in the amount of money earned between those in the top 3 and the rest of the top 10. The top crowdfunded game of the year, Psychonauts 2, earned a staggering ten times the amount that the #10 game, Consortium: The Tower, did. It just goes to show that, while there are a number of successfully crowdfunded projects throughout the year, only a select few do exceptionally well.
