Z1 Battle Royale Sprang Back To Life As Players Came Rushing Back Over The Holidays

Z1 Battle Royale, formerly H1Z1, has mysteriously sprung back to life much like the zombies that infest the original game’s world. Although the game isn’t technically dead, it’s player concurrency had fallen to below 150 players since mid-October but recently saw those numbers rise back up to just over 1,100 players the week before Christmas.

Looking at SteamDB’s concurrency charts, we can see a periodic rise and fall in the game’s player numbers since January 2022 when its average concurrency rose to nearly 1,000 players following a 7-month slump. This was followed by a year-long decline before it rose again to an average concurrency of 1,200 players from March 2023 to October 2023. The run ended again in November when concurrency dropped to roughly 125 players before rising again last week.

It’s unclear what triggers these surges, but it could be streamer-induced popularity, especially after zombie survival games became the talk of the town these past few weeks with The Day Before’s launch and almost immediate fall.
