How To Set Up A QQ Account, And Play Chinese MMOs

Updated As Of January 10, 2017.

Now that China is an explosive powerhouse in the gaming industry the country is host to numerous titles that take their time gracing Western shores. And players can test foreign releases from South Korea and Japan that premiere in China prior to North America and Europe. But in order to play non-region locked Chinese games eager players have to register an account with Tencent’s QQ service. Players with a QQ account will be able to play games such as Blade & Soul and Moonlight Blade on Chinese servers.

If you don't want to go through this entire process to get, you can just buy a Tencent QQ Account from us.

If you've already set up a QQ account you can read up on how to install Moonlight Blade

The first step is to register a QQ account. It’s a service as a result of China's Internet Management regulations, to ensure that players under the age of 18 aren’t exposed to explicit content. How age verification is enforced is another story. Of course no one would go on the internet and lie, but just in case, the People’s Republic has ensured no one can confuse Buster Baxter.

1. Visit the official QQ Account Registration Page (It’s in English so no worries, yet). Fill in your information, and you'll be taken to a page asking you to enter in your mobile number. Unfortunately, there's no way around using a phone number. I used my own and haven't add any issues.

You do need to press the blue text that says "select you country/region" and change it to your own country or region, e.g. mine is the United States so in region box it says "United Stats 001."

Known Issues:

You may hit a brick wall at this stage. Some users report that when they enter their phone number and hit "Submit," they receive the error message "Servers are busy" or "Please try again... due to high volume of setups from your IP." I only received this error when I tried to use the same phone number to sign up for a second account. Although, other members of the MMOs.com team have had the same issue with never before used numbers.

If you have this issue my suggestion is to try a different number or wait a few hours before trying again: it is possible that the servers are overloaded.

If you're successful, you'll be given your QQ number, which you want to save somewhere safe, like in a Notepad document. Your QQ number is your account number. It's how you'll log in to a game like Moonlight Blade.

2. Next, head to the Identity Verification Page, and click the blue button on the left side of your screen. Login with your account information.

3. You’ll then be taken to the page above. If, like me, you weren’t automatically redirected refresh the page or re-click the Identity Verification link. You’ll click the blue text at the bottom that says “*使用其他有效身份证注册。” or roughly in English: “Use other valid ID to register." Clicking here will take us to a verification page that asks for your passport number.

4. In this page there 4 parameters to worry about:
真实姓名 or “Actual Name”
有效证件 or “Valid Documents”

  • There are three choices from a drop-down menu and you want to pick the third one that says “Passport.” You don’t have to use a real passport number but you will want to use a number you can remember. It will be used to reset your password in the event you forget it or your account is hacked. Passports are nine digits long.

出生日期 or “Date of Birth”

  • It’s listed Year, Month, Day. As long as you ensure that your birthday places you above the age of 18 you won’t have any issues. You give your actual birthday on the internet right?

联络地址 or “Address,”

And then click the blue button on the left, that says “Confirm”

5. And that’s it you're done. The fourth sentence from the top should say 年龄:已满18岁, meaning you're at least 18 years of age. Congratulations on universally being recognized as an adult, and your ability to play foreign games.

From Mega Man II to Ape Escape, I've been playing games for as long as I can remember. I've spent months killing porings in Ragnarok Online and more recently lived a second life in Eve Online. I usually play as gUMBY, gUMBLEoni, or gUMBLes in-game.

I have had a QQ account for awhile that i use for Weibo and Youku. but i have never done the Identity Verification thing on it.
If i do this like you said in the guide, could this get my account in trouble lateron?
Or will i be able to change the Identity Verification to a real passport whenever i do live/work in china or taiwan one day without any trouble?

    • The probability of your account being banned/deactivated is highly unlikely. But you could make a secondary account just in case. The only option you can modify post account creation is your address.

      • MastaGlazy

Thankyou for the reply 🙂 I currently did it on my main QQ account. if the day comes i do need/want to change it to a real passport number. il just contact QQ support if they have it and explain the situation. shouldnt be a huge problem 🙂
Currently downloading and updating Moonlight Blade thanks to your guide 🙂

        • Glad to be of help! Let us know what you think ^_^

          • MastaGlazy

I haven't played alot yet but from what i have, its amazing 🙂 i love the gameplay. the areas are also beautifully designed.
For some reason i don't have that big of a delay with using skills as i thought i would.
but yeah, im loving it so far ^-^!

PLEASE MYQQ ACC IS NOT WORKING SHOWING ME PUT A VALID PHONE NUMBER

          • winter

same on mine as well right number region and all

  • Samaan Landon Elias Hanania

It keeps telling me to enter a mobile phone number... Not sure what to do, when I try putting my number in it says that mobile number has received too many attempts and to try a different number

    • Make sure you switch the Verification Parameter in the fourth step to Passport, or the Third Option. You do not have to include your phone number.

    • Anne Nicoles

That thing shouldn't happen at all!
They only send 'phone number' verification when they find you suspicious....meaning your location didn't match with one you chose while signing up for qq(for example lets say you live in France then and such your IP address is from France, but when signing up for qq you chose other country like UK for example, then because your IP address didn't match you were flagged as 'suspicious' in here which means you have to enter your phone number for them to send you SMS....though save yourself pain they never will send you anything). So give them location of your IP address, if your IP address is (US one, UK, one and etc.) then chose those countries as if you were from them.

If this still doesn't work then use VPN and connect to Japanese IP and chose Japan as country that you are from, then whole 'phone number' case shall begone.
After that you need to confirm your qq with is done as guy above wrote:
      1) Get some name(doesn't need to be yours)
      2) Put in random number digits( Japanese passports have 8 digits)
      3) Get some date that says you are 18
      4) Voila you got QQ account.

I am from US and used US as mine number is from US and still flags as invalid then it bans my ip for 24hrs afterwards

    • Mujahid Bukhari

Under send verification button, click on select your country, that will work

  • Nanashi

I'm trying to create an account on QQ, but it keeps telling me to add my mobile number. When i put my mobile number it says it's not available since it's not from China.

  • Brandon Covey

What I am majorly confused on is the "Address" portion. I put in my address, BUT I get put to a new page telling me, "Please fill in below the status information" what the hell do I do?

    • As long as you see the "Congratulations, You're Over 18" you don't have to enter in any additional information. When I went to do this a second time I got confused by that as well. But the "Please fill in below the status information" is for updating your info.

  • Nick

looks as though my qq number isnt working

    • Nick

I'm assuming you need a VPN for Moonlight Blade?

      • Brianna Ruedy

Nope, I do not believe you do. I can't say for sure because I'm currently installing fo the first time and it has not finished but I have heard from multiple sources that it is not region locked so it should be alright.

  • Lucky Cross

Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on?

Gonna post this comment again since the first one is blocked because of the link.

For some reason they have changed from e-mail verification to mobile phone (hope our number is secured and we won't get overcharged now). Worst part is that you have like 5 attempts to try with verification, if none of them reach your phone number then for the current day you are done and you can't make an account. Also dont bother, "feedback" button is not working there.
I have written everything correctly (also selected my country region for phone number) but i haven't received the number so.. i'm unable to make QQ account. Either the website is broken or worst (I just hope is not worst and is just broken). Anyone can confirm if the website is still a legit and valid one or it might be the worst part that i'm afraid of?
    Thx in advance.

  • Mio Sakomoto

meh... tried two times with my number...

"Please try again after 24 hours due to unusually high volume of signups from your IP."

    that sucks :<

    • I don't understand why that error pops up for some people and not others. Maybe trying a VPN to make the account will work?

      • Mio Sakomoto

i tried the upper one without email and it seemed to work..
but i will see if i can realy login then.
and what is that 30% 80% 90% bonus for loading?
does that even work while still downloading the game?

had to set a region and server for that 😛

  • Tina

"This number has reached the daily limit of verification code received. Please try a different number"
    Wat?

    • I don't blame ya. You can try again after 24 hours afaik ><

  • Shea Thomas

Doesnt work ,always getting *This number has reached the daily limit of verification code received. Please try a different number*

    • Did you make sure to change the region code to your region when entering the number?

      • Shea Thomas

        Yeps

        • Hrmm I'm not sure. You can wait 24 hours and try again, or try someone else's number if you have access to one. For some reason, some people just have this issue and they can't get around it. I don't know what causes it ><

          • Shea Thomas

Tried both of those already none worked

          • Maybe a VPN?

          • Shea Thomas

            No luck there either

          • Matt

I've not found a workaround. I had to buy an account, myself. I had previously created one just fine, but they recycled my QQ number due to inactivity. :<

      • Pichamon Herault

Why dont use email verifying? Or if you use phone number maybe have to put 00 instead for + in front of ur country code

    • Anyborg

      me too

  • XRaiderXD

Whenever I put in my phone number ( Yes I put it in correctly), I never recieve anything at all.
I have also triend SMS Verify websites and also no luck there.

    • You don't get an error message either?

      • XRaiderXD

        No, I don't

        • Very odd. Try another browser, might work.

  • Nice and helpful.

  • Anyborg

i did change the region on the phone number and it still wont work. It said that the number had reached the daily number of verification's even though it didn't work before. i tried with different phone numbers and it still didn't work.
