MechWarrior Online EU Servers Down Due To French Data Center Fire

mechwarrior online forest bannerIt seems that Rust wasn’t the only game that was affected by the fire that ripped through the OVH Data Center in Strasbourg, France just past midnight on Wednesday. The good news is that Piranha Games didn’t lose any MechWarrior Online data thanks to backups in separate locations. The EU dedicated servers, however, will be down until further notice while the developers assess the situation.

“While we can’t tell you when the Dedicated Servers will be back up we can reassure you that your account information safely located at another data center with backup and redundancy at secondary locations,” tweeted the studio. “We will do our best to keep you up to date on getting the EU servers back up for players in that region.”

Piranha President Russ Bullock also took to Twitter to give an update on the situation. “Huge fire at the Strasbourg OVH data center,” he wrote. “Entire buildings burnt to the ground. Unclear if our servers are burned or just down while the emergency is underway. More updates as we get them. Appreciate your patience which playing on the NA server in the meantime.”

Thousands of other European sites and servers were also affected, some of which have permanently lost data, as is the case with Facepunch Studios’ Rust. OVH suggests affected sites and services to activate their Disaster Recovery Plans.

A tech news site reports that it took six hours for 115 fire fighters and 44 fire engines from the local emergency services to put out the fire. A team of German fire fighters were also dispatched across the border to help control the blaze.

OVH is the largest cloud provider in Europe with more than 30 data centers across four continents.
